Happy 4th!
How exciting! In just a few short days – Monday, July 4th, we will celebrate “Independence Day”. It is the day we set apart from all others, to observe the anniversary of the birth of our nation. It is the day America declared its Independence. Independence Day commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the establishment of the United States as a sovereign nation.
On July 4th, 1776, 56 of the bravest men who ever lived, signed the document known as “The Declaration of Independence,” declaring independence from King George III and the government of England. That document, as we know, came to be the steppingstone for the United States Constitution, which was signed just a few years later in Philadelphia, in 1787.
I love America. I enjoy THE FREEDOM WE HAVE HERE, especially THE FREEDOM to worship the true and living God. I still believe the United States is the greatest country on the face of the earth in terms of God’s blessing upon it.
It is obvious though that America is not the America we once knew fifty or so years ago. Quite often, the last few years I’ve heard people ask – “Is there any hope for America?”
Well on this the 246th birthday of America, I want to show you from God’s Word that there is hope for America because God says there is!
In 2nd Chronicles Chapter 7, verse 14 we have God’s formula for success:
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
In this verse, God speaks of our POSTURE: “humble ourselves”; God speaks of our PRACTICE: “pray and seek His face”. But notice also that God speaks of our PATH: “and turn from their wicked ways.“
We sit around and talk about how bad things are in America but America won’t get right until we get right with God! God’s response to us in this verse is that as we do our part, He will hear from heaven and heal our land and forgive our sin. This my friends, is great news! In other words, God will no longer hold that sin against us that we’ve repented of and He will never bring it up again. The word “heal” means to sew back together .. to mend something that’s been torn a part.
AND I AM HAPPY TO TELL YOU TODAY THAT what man tears apart, God has the power to sew back together! We have a great Physician who can heal this land! He can heal any broken heart and any broken home. Christ purchased our Freedom on Calvary’s cross once and for all. Will you trust Him with your life?
I would like to encourage you this week to take some time and thank God for the Freedom we
have as citizens of this great country and to thank Him for the freedom from sin that we have in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
As I now close this brief article, I would like to leave you with some Biblical truths regarding our spiritual freedom that I am hoping you will all claim, if you haven’t done so yet.
• I am free from failure, for – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
• I am free from want, – “For my God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19
• I am free from fear – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” 2Timothy 1:7
• I am free from the power of Satan – “For greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” 1John 4:4
• I am free from the power of sin, – “for the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin. “John 1:7
• I am free from bondage, – “for where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
2Cor.3:17
