The Gift of Time
What is one thing that we all possess and have in common, in spite of the many things that may set up apart from one another? As long as we are alive, we all possess the gift of time. Time is something we cannot beg, borrow, or steal from others.
Time is a blessing we all possess, and the question is – what will we choose to do with this gift we had been given by God?
The Bible tells us that one can use it wisely, seeking to live out God’s will, or use it foolishly. There are 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours and 525,600 minutes in each year. We cannot hoard it up, buy, borrow or beg more of it. And the most solemn thing about TIME is that we must give an account to God as to how we use it.
God in His Word tells us that we cannot even count on the rest of “today” or that there will be a “tomorrow.” We are mortal. We live with a ticking clock, and we don’t know when our clock will stop.
As I read the concluding remarks of James Chapter 4, Apostle James seems to ask the question, “But what if tomorrow never comes?”. The Bible never promises or guarantees that any of us will even live to see tomorrow. In Proverbs 27:1, we are admonished to “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”
The lesson that I would like us to take from here is this:
Since tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us, let’s make sure that we appreciate and value the time the Lord is giving us right now. Let us use our time wisely, for God’s glory and the furtherance of His Kingdom.
Dear friend, if you have not made peace with God yet, please call upon the name of the Lord for your salvation. Christ Jesus came to save sinners like us. By grace, through faith in His finished work on Calvary’s cross you could have your sins forgiven and receive the gift of eternal life.
And for us, brothers and sisters in Christ who are already part of the family of God, let us be faithful to our calling as Christians by spreading the gospel, which is the good news and the power of God for salvation to all who believe and let us love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves.
May the words of the poet who wrote the song “One day at a time”, be our words and our heart’s desire today and every day, until the Lord takes us HOME:
“One day at a time, sweet Jesus
That’s all I’m asking from You
Just give me the strength to do every day
What I have to do
Yesterday’s gone, sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine
Lord, help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.”
